Gita Amar pounds the pavement as a freelance journalist in Los Angeles. She serves as  the west coast correspondent for two WABC radio shows, a freelance reporter for Sky Movies UK, a freelance correspondent  for the entertainment weekly In Touch and as a freelance field producer for Fox News Channel’s coverage of  “American Idol.” 

Gita can be heard on air WABC in New York as West Coast Correspondent of the ABC nationally syndicated   “John Batchelor Show” and WABC’s “Monica Crowley Show.” Gita also serves as U.S. correspondent on several stations throughout Australia.  For In Touch and Sky Movies, Gita reports on various Hollywood movie premieres, Hollywood parties and various awards shows.  

Prior to her west coast move, Gita served as an Executive Producer at Fox’s News Digital Media and as a producer at Fox News Channel.  She helped to bridge the divide between television and the internet at three Fox websites: Foxnews.com, Foxsports.com, and Fox.com, supervising the research and development of affiliate websites.  Additionally, she supervised coverage of Election 2000 Senate and House Races for Foxnews.com   She also created all editorial web content for the first Fox News Channel interactive TV special – “TV and the Presidency.”  

 At Fox News Channel, Gita was promoted from a news feed producer to a politics producer.  As a politics producer, she coordinated coverage of Election 2000 and special event coverage by producing package feeds and interviews for debates, primaries, and conventions for over one hundred Fox affiliates. She also conducted interviews with newsmakers – Elizabeth Dole, Lamar Alexander, Hillary Clinton, which aired on Fox News Channel and on various Fox affiliates throughout the country.  Some of her celebrity interviews include – Barbara Streisand, Pierce Brosnan, Julianne Moore, Glenn Close , James Woods, and Drew Barrymore.

Gita’s career began as a press aide for the Dukakis Presidential campaign in Los Angeles. She also interned for Senator Edward Kennedy, for whom she prepared press briefings and facilitated media coverage. She subsequently interned at ABC’s affiliate in Utica, NY, ABC’s legal division in Los Angeles, and at the CNN Assignment Desk in Los Angeles.  Gita’s first tv job was serving as an associate producer at News 12 New Jersey.  Years later,  Gita went on to serve as a reporter at News 12 New Jersey and News 12 Connecticut covering Y2K, police scandals, and implosions!

 Her breaking news coverage of 9/11 for radio station 3AK Melbourne, Australia garnered her a SAJA award in 2002 for Outstanding Story on any Subject in the Broadcast category. 

 Gita holds a master’s degree from the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications, a law degree from Syracuse University College of Law, and a bachelor’s degree from UCLA (where she served as a reporter for radio station KLA and a reporter for the Daily Bruin).

A long-time SAJA member, she run the Los Angeles Chapter.
