ANJUMAN ALI is national-foreign editor for the Wisconsin State Journal, based in Madison.

Last month Anju returned to the U.S. after four years in Belgium, reluctantly giving up frites with banzai sauce, and chocolates. In Brussels, she worked as a copy editor for the Wall Street Journal Europe. She was part of a team managing European politics and economy coverage. Anju has also written for the Journal Europe. During her first stay in the U.S., she worked as a reporter for newspapers in Elyria (Ohio) and Pittsburgh, and was a summer newswoman for the Associated Press in Cleveland.

A native of Bombay, India, Anju has a bachelor's and a master's degree in political science from the University of Bombay, and a doctorate in political economy from Kent State University in Ohio. Her thesis, which focused on alternative concepts of development, was nominated for the American Political Science Association's best dissertation award.

Anju speaks Hindi, Assamese, several Indian languages, and French. She is a trained classical dancer, and a fanatic follower of Indian movies.
