SAJA Board Elections 2010-2011
Please note: The nomination deadline is Nov. 9, 2009.
The South Asian Journalists Association will hold an election for five board seats this year.
We seek candidates who will uphold the organization’s mission of providing a networking and resource forum for journalists of South Asian origin and journalists interested in South Asia or the South Asian Diaspora, and acting as a resource to facilitate and promote accurate coverage of South Asia and South Asians in North America.
If you are interested, please send us a statement describing why you want to serve on the SAJA board, and include your journalistic background. Please limit the statement to no more than 300 words. This information MUST BE RECEIVED BY November 9, 2009 at sajamember [at] gmail [dot] com.

We request that all candidates review the following list of board duties, and understand the commitment they would be required to make during their board term.
BOARD DUTIES *
Board members review financial statements to ensure the organization's funds are being used appropriately.

They take part in planning the budget, and fundraising, including through personal sources.

They also agree to make an annual financial donation (one that is individually meaningful) to the organization.

Board members must also agree to chair a committee that oversees a program or service offered by SAJA, and carry out this organization's mission of acting as a resource to facilitate and promote thorough, accurate coverage of South Asia and the South Asian Diaspora, including South Asians in North America.

The time commitment for SAJA board members includes attending four board meetings every year, and being available for phone consultation when needed.

Board members also put in at least 10 hours of volunteer work for SAJA each month, with more time as necessary.

They attend SAJA's annual convention and awards dinner, play an active role in helping the convention committee in ways such as securing keynote speakers and panelists, judging awards, recruiting attendees, providing information to attendees, and hosting SAJA's major donors at the awards dinner.
