SAJA members re-elected three incumbents and added two newcomers to form SAJA's 2010-2011 board, in an election where nine candidates vied for five open seats.
Those elected at the annual meeting on Dec. 8, are Sandeep Junnarkar, John Laxmi, Anusha Shrivastava, Ambreen Ali, Sovy Azhath. The other candidates, in what was a close election, were Arun Aguiar, Dipka Bhambhani, Ismat Mangla and Tejinder Singh.
Junnarkar, an associate professor at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, Laxmi, a freelancer and partner with Alinda Capital LLC, and Shrivastava, a reporter with Dow Jones Newswires, have all served on SAJA's board and executive committee.
Ali is a freelance reporter based in Washington D.C. and Azhath is a producer for MSNBC's "Morning Joe" show.
The annual meeting took place just prior to SAJA's festive holiday party, held this year overlooking Manhattan at the Highbar penthouse in midtown.
