She is the author of two books: May You Be the
Mother of a Hundred
Sons: A Journey Among the Women of India (Random House, 1990);
The
Secrets of Mariko: A Year in the Life of a Japanese Woman and Her
Family (Times Books, 1995).
Born in Aalborg, Denmark, and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Elisabeth has a bachelor's in journalism from Northwestern University and a master's from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism.
Previously, he served as bureau chief in Tokyo from 1989 to 1992 and as bureau chief in New Delhi from 1985 ro 1989. He was senior White House correspondent from 1981 to 1985; White House correspondent from 1979 to 1981; Albany bureau chief in 1978; City Hall bureau chief from 1976 to 1978; City Hall reporter from 1974 to 1976, and metro reporter from 1970 to 1974. He joined The Times as a news clerk in 1968. He won a Silurian Society award in 1975 for his reporting of New York City's fiscal crisis.
Born in Los Angeles, Steve has a bachelor's in English Literature from Yale.
