Basma Babar-Quraishi is a producer in CNN's Islamabad bureau responsible for news coverage of Pakistan. Babar-Quraishi started as an intern with the network’s news magazine show CNN&Time in 1998. Since joining CNN full-time the following year she has field produced in long-form, documentary and breaking news. Babar-Quraishi became CNN’s first Islamabad Bureau Producer following the events of September 11th. She has covered major events in Pakistan and the region, including the militant backlash in Pakistan following the U.S. bombardment of Afghanistan, the ongoing conflict between nuclear neighbors India and Pakistan, the religious extremist movement in Pakistan and the clashes on the line of control in the disputed region of Kashmir. She produced and shot stories from Karachi on the disappearance of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl and the bombing of the Protestant International Church in Islamabad. Additionally, she produced an award-winning series of in-depth reports leading up to the first general elections in Pakistan since a 1999 military coup. Before taking up her assignment in Pakistan Babar-Quraishi produced long-form stories including pieces on the JFK Jr. plane crash and the Elian Gonzalez case. While with CNN Presents, the networks premiere documentary unit she field-produced an award-winning documentary on modern urban warfare and an in-depth hour on juveniles on death row in Texas. Prior to working for CNN, Babar-Quraishi was a copy-editor at an advertising agency in Lahore, Pakistan. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Journalism from Rutgers University and a Masters in Broadcast Journalism from Boston University, and is fluent in Urdu, Punjabi and French. She is married to CNN Islamabad Bureau Chief, Ash-har Quraishi. -30-
