SHEBANA
COELHO is a freelance producer/director in documentary films in New York.
Most recently, she produced DESI: SOUTH ASIANS IN NY, a profile of how
Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis are living and working in the city
(to be broadcast March 14, 2000 on Channel 13, WNET). She was also
Outreach Director for A WOMAN'S PLACE, a PBS documentary which examines
the changes women are making in the legal arena in South Africa, India
and the US; and Co-Producer for THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING a chronicle
of the building's construction for the Discovery Channel. Other projects
include WILLIAM STYRON: THE WAY OF THE WRITER for American Masters and
FAMILY MAN, an examination of contemporary fatherhood which profiles families
in East Baltimore and New York state. Along the
way, she's dabbled in narrative film, working on projects like Mira Nair's
KAMA SUTRA and WRESTLING WITH ALLIGATORS, an independent feature showcased
at the Sundance Film Festival. She's also
pursuing an interest in creative writing. Her fiction has been workshopped
at the Unterberg Poetry Center (92nd Street Y) and the Writer's Studio.
She
is currently working on a collection of short stories. She was born
