GOLDEN is executive vice president and general manager of CNN
International. In this role, she oversees the editorial production,
program development, talent and day-to-day operations of CNN International
that encompasses seven English-language CNN networks that reach
an audience of more than 160 television households worldwide in
over 200 countries and territories. Golden’s
commitment to keeping CNN International at the forefront of comprehensive
global information delivery is evident in her hands-on approach
in directing the networks current editorial tone during its continuing
coverage of the War in Iraq. Through
Golden’s guidance, CNN International has successfully integrated
the networks’ trademark world news and global business news with
double-anchored regional programs from London and Hong Kong. In
the fall of 2002, she led the development of ‘Your World Today’,
the four-hour fast-paced global news program anchored from CNN’s
headquarters in Atlanta. As
the lead architect of the network’s ambitious “regionalization”
strategy, an initiative that began in 1997, Golden has managed the
launch of more than 80 hours of programming tailored for regional
audiences. This strategy culminated with the March 2003 launch of
CNN Internationals seventh network, CNNj—developed for Japanese
viewers via a partnership with Japan Cable Television. Golden
is also responsible for the recruitment and management of CNN International's
team of news anchors. Under Golden’s leadership, the network has
employed anchors representing 15 different nationalities, reflecting
CNN International’s diverse audience. In
her current role, Golden has also served as executive producer for
major live events and breaking news including the September 11th
attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, the beginning of
air-strikes in the war in Afghanistan, the 100-hour Millennium 2000
programming and Great Britain's handover of Hong Kong to China in
1997. She began her career as a documentary producer for Turner
Broadcasting in 1985 before becoming a writer and producer for both
CNN International and CNN/U.S. Golden,
who was born in Bettiah, Bihar, India, earned a bachelor's degree
with honors in English literature from the University of North Carolina.
She is a member of the AOL Time Warner Diversity Committee and also
contributes to the Emory University Journalism Program Advisory
Board as well as the Atlanta Woman Magazine Advisory Board. She
is based at CNN's world headquarters in Atlanta.
