NISID HAJARI is managing editor of Newsweek International, the overseas edition of Newsweek magazine. He top-edits the entire magazine and oversees its coverage globally. NewsweekInternational has 1.1 million subscribers around the world and is distributed in 190 countries.

Prior to becoming managing editor in Aug. 2002, he was the Asia editor of Newsweek International for 16 months, responsible for the magazine's coverage of countries from Afghanistan to Japan.

From 1997 to 2000, he worked in Hong Kong as a writer and then an editor for Time Asia, the Asian edition of Time magazine. While there he covered stories ranging from the handover of Hong Kong to the Asian financial crisis to the fall of Suharto. Two special issues he top-edited ("Asians of the Century" and "From Sapporo to Surabaya: An Asian Journey") were awarded general excellence awards from the Society of Publishers in Asia. (A third, Newsweek's 2001 Asia
special issue, "East Meets West" won a SOPA award as well.)

Before Time he worked at Entertainment Weekly as a music writer from
1992-1995, and at the Village Voice, where he wrote for the Voice
Literary Supplement. He holds a B.A. in English from Princeton University
and an M.A. in English/Comparative Literarure from Columbia University.
He lives in New York City.
