AMRIT KAKARIA is a pioneering journalist who has been a mentor and guide to dozens on South Asian journalists in the United States.

He was born and brought up in New Delhi. He did B.Sc. from Hindu College, Delhi University. Entered Durga Das's new enterprise INFA (India News and Feature Alliance) and acquired the birds and bees of journalism from him.

Was INFA correspondent in London for two years.

Did Thomson Foundation refresher course for senior journalists in Cardiff.

Migrated to the U.S. in early 1977.

Worked 4 years for India Abroad. Launched India Today magazine for sale in North America.

Controller, Bombay Broadcasting TV show for one year.

Correspondent, Economic Times for two years.

Chief Representative in North America for India Today till 1997.

Now, semi-retired and occasional contributor to the Economic Times and TravTalk (travel trade).

Amrit is an active member of the SAJA Board.

He lives in Long Island with his wife, Bettina.
