SAJA E-mail Lists

SAJA runs several mailing lists that are open to the public.
They are all e-mail based. We do not do snail mail.

The Lists are run by SAJA co-founder Sreenath Sreenivasan and others, depending on the topic.

To join a list drop us a note at saja@columbia.edu with the number(s) and name(s), plus your name, affiliation and a sentence or two about yourself -- please indicate the city & country you are based in. You DO NOT have to be a journalist or live in North America to participate (except as indicated).

1. EVENTS & NEWSLETTER LIST: Learn about SAJA events in New York and other chapter cities. Learn about plans for the annual SAJA Convention. Open to journalists and non-journalists worldwide. No more than two messages a month.
See detailed explanation of posting guidelines.

2. E-MAIL DISCUSSION LIST: Join 200 journalists and others in 25 countries discussing issues of interest to them. Mostly items about the U.S. & Canadian media, South Asia and the South Asian diaspora. Open to journalists and non-journalists worldwide. Average of 50 messages a day.

3. ARTICLES LIST: Instead of receiving all the discussions of list #2, you can choose to receive just some articles that are posted there (the most important and topical news items in the US media about South Asia and South Asian Americans). An excellent way to keep in touch with goings-on in South Asia and South Asian America. Open to journalists and non-journalists worldwide. Average of three messages a day.

4. SELECTED ARTICLES LIST: A filtered version of list #3. You get only articles that are, in the moderator's subjective opinion, especially worth reading. Open to journalists and non-journalists worldwide. Average of three messages a week (instead of three a day). This is a subset of #2 and #3.

5. JOBS LIST: Selected U.S. journalism jobs announcements. Open ONLY to paid SAJA members (read about our membership options). Average of once a week.

6. STUDENTS LIST: A discussion list for students and others new to journalism in the U.S. or Canada ONLY. Run by SAJAer S. Mitra Kalita of Newsday. Average of five a week.

7. BROADCAST LIST: A discussion list for broadcast journalists working in the U.S. and Canada ONLY. Run by SAJAer Hari Sreenivasan of CNET-TV. Average of one a week.

8. PHOTOJOURNALISM LIST: A discussion list for photojournalists working in the U.S. and Canada ONLY. Run by SAJer and photojournalist Seshu Badrinath. Average of five a week.

To join a list drop us a note at saja@columbia.edu with the number(s) and name(s), plus your name, affiliation and a sentence or two about yourself -- please indicate the city & country you are based in. You DO NOT have to be a journalist or live in North America to participate. If you are joining list #2, we'll share it with the group as a way to introduce you.

MEMBERSHIP: Meanwhile, if you are interested in being a paid member of SAJA, see our membership details (plenty of exclusive benefits and several options (non-journalists can join, too).

If you are already on a list and want to change your subscription or want to unsubscribe, you can write to saja@columbia.edu.
