He has served in many of the country offices of
UNDP in Asia and the Pacific in various positions of increasing
seniority: Assistant Resident Representative in Nepal (1974-78) and
Pakistan (1978-82), Deputy Resident Representative in Papua New Guinea
(1983-85), Bhutan (1985-87), and China (1987-91), culminating in his
appointment as UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative
in Afghanistan (1991-96) and in Bangladesh (1996-99) to which he brought
special expertise in crisis and disaster management, and community-based
development, including programmes with civil society and NGOs.
David Lockwood, a
graduate of the University of Durham (U.K.) in Law and Politics, has
served all of his professional career with the United Nations.
