ANJUMAN ALI is interactive editor and editorial writer for the Wisconsin State Journal, a Lee newspaper based in Madison.
Ali is responsible for news and visual content and interactive elements on the paper's Web site. She managed a redesign of the site (www.madison.com/wsj), which was unveiled in December 2005. Since then, monthly page views have almost doubled.
Ali also is a member of the paper's editorial board, and writes editorials and a monthly column.
Ali worked as a copy editor for the Wall Street Journal Europe, in Brussels, for three years. She was part of a team managing European politics and economy coverage. Ali has also written for the Journal Europe. During her first stay in the United States, she worked as a reporter for newspapers in Elyria (Ohio) and Pittsburgh, and was a summer newswoman for the Associated Press in Cleveland.
A native of Bombay, India, Ali has a bachelor's and a master's degree in political science from the University of Bombay, and a doctorate in political science -- international relations from Kent State University in Ohio. Her thesis, which focused on alternative concepts of development, was nominated for the American Political Science Association's best dissertation award.
Ali speaks Hindi, Assamese, several Indian languages and French. She is a trained classical dancer, and a fanatic follower of Indian movies.
