SAJA PROFILE : Scott Carney
Freelance writer
SCOTT CARNEY It's true, Scott Carney isn’t exactly the most likely name to appear on SAJA’s member list. He was neither born on the subcontinent, nor has he married an Indian. Yet despite this apparent lack of desi blood, Scott has maintained strong ties to South Asia for several years.

As a writer for India Today, he has written features on the New York bhangra explosion, Bollywood non-profiteering and the diminishing numbers of Indian models working in North America. He helped write and edit the Fodor’s Travel Guide to India 2002 for Random House Books and has spent several months roaming around Rajasthan tracking down leads.

An article published in Shout NY covered the complex environmental and social issues surrounding the Shipbreaking Yards of Alang in Gujarat.

Until September 2001, he was the Senior Editor for Manhattan Style, an upscale luxury lifestyle magazine. Since then he has been writing stories and features for any magazine that will hear his pitches.

Scott, who lives in New York City, speaks Hindi and Urdu.
