| Gopal is a staff writer at Defense News, a Gannett-owned weekly newspaper that covers the politics, policies and the money behind the world's largest militaries.
Currently he writes about the U.S. and European defense industry as well as covers U.S. policies toward Asia. Earlier he has written extensively about U.S.missile defense systems, and has covered the Middle East, traveled extensively in the region and has interviewed heads of state.
Prior to joining Defense News in 1998, Gopal completed an eight-month computer assisted reporting assignment at Gannett News Service in Arlington, VA and his stories were published in over a dozen newspapers in the country.
He came to the United States in 1996 to obtain an M.A. in Journalism and Public Affairs at American University, Washington, D.C., after working for three years as a business reporter and editor at the The Hindu Business Line in Chennai, India. He also holds an MBA degree from India and just completed the Wharton Seminars for Business Journalists.
He's married with two daughters and lives in Arlington, VA.
