Shivali Shah is a freelance journalist mostly covering immigration law and policy, immigrant family life, and women's issues. Her specialties include immigrant women, the cultural defense and domestic violence. She has published in publications such as: India Abroad, Southern Exposure Journal, India New England, Immigration Law Daily. She has been interviewed and quoted in the Washington Post, New York Times, British
Broadcasting Company (the BBC), National Public Radio (NPR), and others.
Shah did her undergraduate studies at Columbia College, Columbia University. At Duke University, she received a J.D. from the School of Law and a Cft. from the Graduate Department of Women's Studies. She is a co-founder of Kiran: Domestic Violence and Crisis Services for South Asians in North Carolina. She formerly worked at an immigration law firm and taught public policy and the law at Rutgers University.
