| VIR SINGH is a freelance journalist based in New Delhi. He was an active member of SAJA when he lived in NYC and Washington. Here is a profile of Vir in his own words.
Based in New Delhi, India, I contribute to several publications and radio programs, mostly in the United States.
Much of my recent work has focused on India's power industry. I have covered several issues, including private investment. I have written a lot about clean energy initiatives, including clean coal technologies, energy efficiency, renewable energy sources (wind and solar), etc.
My other area of expertise is development, meaning efforts to promote education, family planning, clean water and women's empowerment in India. I have covered government initiatives as well as projects funded by overseas aid agencies. Having already written about these issues at the international level--at major UN conferences on population and the environment, urban planning, poverty alleviation, women's empowerment, education and health--I have moved to India to see what impact development projects have on the ground.
I have done a lot of news, business and feature stories for: BBC World Radio, London; National Public Radio, Washington; Marketplace Radio, Los Angeles; the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel; Houston Chronicle; Far Eastern Economic Review, Hong Kong; Outlook Magazine, New Delhi; and the Earth Times, New York.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English and Politics & Govt. from Ripon College, Ripon, Wisconsin (1992) and a Master of International Affairs with a specialization in journalism from Columbia University (1994). |
