Quraishi
is CNN's bureau chief in Islamabad. In this capacity, he is
responsible for the network's coverage of Pakistan.
Since joining CNN in 1998, Quraishi has reported extensively on major events in Pakistan and the region, including the Agra Summit, the ongoing conflict between nuclear neighbors India and Pakistan, the floods in Eastern India, the religious extremist movement in Pakistan and the clashes on the line of control in the disputed region of Kashmir. He reported live from Karachi on the disappearance of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl and the bombing of the Protestant International Church in Islamabad. Additionally, he reported an award-winning five-part series on the first general elections in Pakistan since a 1999 military coup and was live from the capital on Election Day.
Following the arrest of top Al Qaeda operative Khalid Shaikh Mohammad in Rawalpindi Quraishi was the first television correspondent to report the capture. He provided live reports as the story unfolded and conducted a one-on-one interview with Pakistan's President General Pervez Musharraf following the arrest.
Quraishi was involved in producing the magazine program “CNN&TIME” since 1998 and was promoted to production supervisor/manager for the show in 2000. One year later, he took up the position of producer for CNN USA and also helped launch the web-based CNN.com newscast - CNN Quickcast.
Prior to working for CNN, Quraishi reported and produced for WGEM in Quincy, Illinois.
Quraishi has traveled extensively through South Asia and the surrounding region since 1980, including India, Pakistan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
Quraishi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and is fluent in Urdu and Hindi and has a working knowledge of Spanish. He is married to CNN producer, Basma Babar-Quraishi.
