Raman Narayanan
is a South Asian native of Malaysia. He is Editor of Atlanta and
the World, a newly-launched weekly section published by the Atlanta
Journal-Constitution. Prior to the AJC, Raman was an Editor/Senior
Writer for CNN International before the then AJC Editor-in-Chief
brought him aboard with an offer "that hit my pulse points",
Raman said.
Raman's first
stop in Atlanta was in 1988 as a copy editor with the AJC. He was
promoted to opinion-page editor in 1993. During this time, the AJC
won several national awards as the "Best Opinion Page"
in the country.
He left Atlanta
and returned to Malaysia working for a think tank promoting democratic
reform. His close alliance with the then Deputy Prime Minister,
Anwar Ibrahim, brought national recognition to the cause.
Raman's return
to Atlanta in 1998 was also his reentry into Journalism. In January
2002, he joined the AJC with a lucrative offer to leave his journalistic
mark with a weekly section that was first in the nation.
Raman is married
to Christine Phang. They have two children, Sheila, 12, and Surian,
8. They live in Decatur.
