Prakash
M. Swamy is one of the most senior South Asian journalists in the
United States, with more than 25 years experience in international journalism. He is currently
the New York correspondent for The Hindu Business Line, Sun TV, Ananda
Vikatan and India He has previously
worked as associate Editor of News India-Times, New York, Senior Editor
and News Editor (Jan-Sept 1988) India Abroad Publications; Executive Editor
of Junior Vikatan of Ananda Vikatan Group, Madras; Bureau Chief &
Principal Correspondent, India Today, Madras and Principal Correspondent
& Editor of International Edition at The Hindu, Madras. He did his
onternship at The Gainesville Sun, New York Times Group,Gainesville, Florida. He received
his bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Florida in
Gainesville (1987-88); bachelor's degree in journalism from Horniman's
College of Journalism (1980-81) and master's in commerce from Madurai
Kamaraj University. He received
a special honor last year from the US Department Of Commerce Recognition
for propagating US Census-2000 and was elected as executive committee
member of the United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA) for the
year 2001. He is accredited to the United Nations since 1998. Prakash
is also the vice president of New York Tamil Sangam. In India,
he received the Professional Excellence Award of the Rotary International,
Madras in 1997 and Lions International's Best Investigative Reporting
Award for media scoop on former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's assassination
in 1991. A winner of the Rotary Foundation's Ambassador of Goodwill scholarship
for higher studies in the US(1987-88), he was nominated to the Senate
of the University of Madras by the Tamil Nadu State Governor for a three-year
term, the only journalist in the 120-year history of the university to
