Darshan Thakkar
Editor-in-chief, India Newsweek
|
Darshan Thakkar is Editor-In-Chief of India Newsweek—a fortnightly publication connecting the Asian Indian community throughout New England and the U.S. “Ever since my first article appeared in Indian Express while I was in the ninth grade, I've fanaticized about becoming a journalist,” he says. Born in Ahmedabad, Darshan moved to Chicago in 1984 at the age of 16. He completed high school and college in Chicago and moved to Boston to attend law school in 1991. “There are a number of reasons why I did not attend journalism school—family and financial pressures—but in the end they are all excuses,” he laments. Darshan graduated law school in 1995 and practiced law full-time while teaching and writing part-time. After not enjoying a single day of his eight years of law practice, he turned to his original plan in life: to become a journalist. In January 2003, he became a columnist for India Newsweek, and in August, its Editor-In-Chief. “After having written freelance for several years, I couldn't resist the opportunity to become a regular columnist, and eventually the editor, of a quality newspaper,” he asserts. Darshan lives with his wife and two children in the Boston suburbs. You can reach him by email at darshan@indianewsweek.com. You can read India Newsweek online at http://www.indianewsweek.com |
