I am a freelance writer based in Austin, Texas; but I vagabond in any part of the world whenever I get the chance. I have written for National Geographic's GeoTourism guides, Washington Magazine, InfoChange India, Seattle Times, Austin Woman, World Press, Colors NW and many others.
My new book, The Weight of Silence: Invisible Children of India, has just been published in June 2009. It's a narrative non-fiction book that tells the true stories of children such as those brought to life in the movie Slumdog Millionaire. The book follows my journey into orphanages and through the streets and slums of India where millions of innocent children live without families. These are the stories Hollywood left behind - the real life for kids such as those portrayed in Slumdog Millionaire. For millions, the life in that movie is their everyday reality – without the fairytale ending.
