In These Times is a progressive, nonprofit political magazine dedicated to supporting movements for economic, social, racial and environmental justice, with a special emphasis on workers’ rights and investigative reporting. Founded in 1976, the magazine has seen record growth over the past five years, as more and more people become engaged with democratic socialism, the movement for Black lives, and campaigns for workers’ rights.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable editing a variety of stories, including hard news, long-form features, opinion and cultural commentary for both print and web, with an understanding of the unique needs of both mediums.

We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience and ideas that will help us diversify our audiences culturally and geographically, and increase our reach among underserved communities as well as younger audiences. • Help cultivate and maintain writer relationships
    • Collaborate with the Publishing department to identify opportunities to increase the visibility and impact of stories
    • Participate in culture building, inclusive decision making, and bringing ideas to different parts of our work in order to help us improve as an organization
    • Collaborate with other members of the management team, collaborate in setting goals and strategy for the overall organization

    Requirements

    • Previous experience leading a small to medium-sized editorial team
    • 3 or more years of experience as an editor for print and/or web journalism
    • An understanding of and engagement with progressive politics and/or social movements

    Salary and Benefits

Annual salary is $70,000 to $75,000, based on experience, with a scheduled 5% raise in April of 2023.
