Associate Director, Growth Marketing, The Atlantic

    The Atlantic is looking for a creative, strategic, and data-driven marketer to join our Consumer Strategy & Growth team and be part of our subscription growth story. This position will own acquisition marketing strategy for the subscription business, from developing qualified prospects through purchase and onboarding. This will specifically include overseeing paid marketing efforts (search and social), on-site and platform-based acquisition campaigns, and email marketing—all while providing a superior customer experience to increase growth, loyalty, brand love, and ultimately retention.

    This is a highly cross-functional role that works closely with teammates to create cohesive and engaging lifecycle experiences as well as stakeholders across Product & Engineering, Design, Data Science, and Research on the subscriber and subscription experiences.

    This position will have the opportunity to hire one direct report; this role reports to the Senior Director, Consumer Strategy & Growth.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Driving customer-acquisition efforts, focusing on digital marketing initiatives like search engine marketing, paid social advertising, and on-site and platform based acquisition promotions
    • Overseeing moment-based marketing campaigns like the gift program, back-to-school campaign, grad gifting campaign. Conceptualizing new moment-based campaigns that would help drive acquisition
    • Leveraging email as a channel to drive acquisition growth from prospects to subscribers to winning back expired/cancelled subscribers
    • Partnering with the Growth Optimization Manager on experimentation across channels with primary focus on on-site surfaces and improving conversion rates
    • Partnering with the Data team to turn data-informed insights into growth strategies
    • Partnering with the Product team to help develop products and features that support the subscription goals


    • 3 to 5 years of experience driving growth for a DTC digital business. Subscription experience will be a plus
    • Capable of managing a diverse marketing portfolio with at least 2 years of experience in running cross-platform marketing campaigns
    • Paid marketing and external vendor/agency management experience required
    • Familiarity with Google Analytics, Looker or other data analytics and visualization tools. SQL experience a plus
    • Ability to parse data and audience insights
    • Skilled communicator, both written and verbal
    • Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
    • An entrepreneurial and inventive approach to solving problems
    • An abiding appreciation for the value of great journalism
