The Atlantic has, for more than 160 years, advanced ideas that matter and sparked global conversation on the most important issues of our time. We aim to bring clarity and original thinking to questions of consequence, on topics ranging from politics, the economy, and global affairs to technology, science, and culture. As the third-longest-running magazine in America, we find ourselves at a remarkable moment: one of both continuation and transformation, of upholding our legacy while continuously reinventing ourselves for the future.

The Atlantic is seeking an experienced full-time copy editor for TheAtlantic.com. This person will copy edit articles ranging from several hundred to several thousand words, and will also copy edit social-media posts and other content. This person will also have some fact-checking responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have a sharp eye for detail, a fine ear for language, and an exceptional grasp of grammar, accepted usage, punctuation, and spelling. Additionally, a candidate should be able to prioritize when juggling multiple assignments, and adhere to high standards under tight deadlines.

The ideal candidate has at least five years’ experience, comfort working in a fast-paced environment, and familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style. This person will also combine obsessiveness with collegiality and a sense of humor.

The Atlantic has offices in Washington, D.C., and New York City, but this position can be remote.

The Atlantic Monthly Group LLC and its affiliates ("The Atlantic") are Equal Opportunity Employers. We do not discriminate against our applicants because of race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), national origin, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or any other status protected by applicable law.
