    SUMMARY

The Content Editor, Weekly is interested in innovative reporting and committed to journalism that is highly distinctive, constructive, and solution-oriented.

The Monitor wants to be a tool for readers who want more than news – they want to be a part of the solution. Our Weekly coverage is a vital part of this promise, and our team will interact frequently with our audience, through articles, social media, events, and partnerships.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Establishment of appropriate workflows and deadline rhythms will be part of this, and both content editors will coordinate closely with the Copy Desk so as to ensure as smooth a workflow as possible.

The Content Editor, Weekly will have the lead responsibility for assigning stories to the Weekly, and for working with staff to produce features that are exclusive to the print Weekly, such as Points of Progress or Numbers. While the Monitor editorial staff will be increasingly integrated, the Content Editor, Weekly will take the lead in working with staff who are dedicated largely to the Weekly, including the Books editor and the junior staff editor. The Content Editor, Weekly will also take primary responsibility for print photo features, such as In Pics, working closely with the Photo Editor.

The Content Editor, Weekly will have a strong command of what works in both longer-form stories and shorter items, and is attuned to offering a blend of features that makes for a satisfying and enriching Weekly read that exemplifies Monitor quality and values. The Content Editor, Weekly builds a sense of teamwork among their staff and encourages them to take initiative and to work collaboratively. The Content Editor, Weekly, also works closely with the Content Editor, Daily and the Daily Deputy to ensure they can assist or lead during absences of members of that team.

The Content Editor, Weekly skills include:

    • A strong sense of what’s interesting and meaningful to readers.
