    The Seattle Times, one of the few remaining independently owned newspapers and one of the nation’s premier regional news sources, is looking for a full-time, temporary Multimedia Specialist to join our Pulitzer Prize-winning newsroom. As part of our Photo team, you will be responsible for downloading, color correcting, cropping and sizing photos for use on all Seattle Times news platforms. You will work under the direction of photo and video editors, assisting with picture and video editing, and handling special projects. Ideally, you would be comfortable handling other duties which include building photo galleries and posting Times visual content online as well as on social media sites. In addition, you should be ready and willing to help out with other tasks as needed, including some administrative duties, like processing invoices and ordering supplies, along with technical maintenance tasks.

    This temporary position is scheduled to last 16 weeks (four months) to provide coverage.

    Qualifications

    • Experience: Minimum two years’ experience at a daily news organization or equivalent relevant experience in journalism.
    • Education: A college degree, ideally in photojournalism, is preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
    • Qualified candidates will have excellent news judgment and organizational skills.
    • A proficiency in using Adobe Photoshop is key, along with the desire to learn and master the use of Times publishing systems.
    • Candidates must have a familiarity with and ability to post to social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
    • Excellent grammar and language skills are critical, along with the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
    • Must be comfortable taking direction from photo editors and working collaboratively while having the confidence and skill set to tackle many tasks alone.
    • Must have excellent communication skills and work well with a wide variety of people, including photographers, reporters, editors, readers, etc.
    • Willingness to embrace new, changing technology.

    Schedule

    This four-month position will include evening and weekend shifts.
