    The Boston Globe is looking for a high-energy and aggressive reporter to help identify - and drive- high-impact stories for its premier investigative unit, the Spotlight Team. Ideally, candidates have deep experience in investigative reporting and proof of exceptional work.  But the Globe is also open to applicants with less experience who bring strong data skills, foreign language proficiency, video forensic skills, diverse life experiences or other special qualities.

    The Spotlight Team - the nation's longest continuously operating investigative unit - is highly collaborative, so this candidate must communicate and work well with others, while also showing strong leadership.  The ideal candidate is also someone who is as adept at analyzing complex data as they are at interviewing a wide range of people.

    Responsibilities:

    • Report aggressively on topics that can range from social justice and health care to politics and criminal law;
    • Continually look for tips and breaking news stories that may lead to ambitious investigative, accountability or explanatory projects;
    • Strive for stories with high public impact;
    • Write clearly and forcefully;
    • Take initiative in considering the photo, video, graphic and multimedia elements of projects and work well with other departments to make that happen;
    • Show dogged aggressiveness in uncovering information, but also show a deep sense of fairness and compassion.

    Application requirements: Please upload a resume, a one-page cover letter summarizing the qualities you would bring to the investigative team, and a maximum of five clips. If we need more clips or information, the Globe will follow-up.
